Meet the Navigator - Brenda Valdez

Tell us about you and the unique qualities or expertise you have?

I am proud to say that I have dedicated the last several years to children and their development where I took on roles ranging from private childcare and tutoring. I have since earned my Bachelors in Multidisciplinary Studies with a concentration in Language and Linguistics from the University of Texas at El Paso. With my combined studies and experience, I have become deeply passionate about literacy development in children. It is the foundation of gaining a deeper understanding of the world around them.

What is your favorite part of the service you provide?

I am excited to serve the community where I was born and raised. I am especially excited to serve parents of young children in El Paso. My favorite part of the service we provide at the Parents as Teachers program is offering resources that will assist with their child’s developmental needs.

When you are not providing services to families, what do you like to do in your spare time?

I really enjoy spending time with my friends and family, trying new restaurants, going to concerts, watching movies, and occasionally, having a refreshing nap.

What is something unique about yourself that you would like others to know?

In 2017, I was given the opportunity to teach English as a Second Language to Chinese children online. Because of the time difference, I would often wake up at 4 A.M. to begin teaching classes. Overall, I successfully taught over 800 classes with English Language Learners from China.
